Overnight
Some people may need to take some rest intermittently during the course of the night, and we will have a few mattresses available at Colet House for this. If you have a medical condition or other needs that mean it would not be appropriate for you to do the whole overnighter, then you might stay as long as you like if you’re comfortable that you can make your way home whenever feels appropriate, or you might go home in the Friday dinner break and join from zoom.
If you end up traveling very late, you might consider a taxi/uber to make it easier. If you’re far away, you might consider getting somewhere to stay nearby. Remember that the S2S fund is available towards travel and accommodation, so you could apply for that support if you need it.
**If you’re considering anything other than an in-person participation, for any reason, please explore with your teacher to find what will be most supportive and optimal for you. **Please email Dom ([email protected]) with your plan once you’ve done this.
Meals
For dinner on Friday evening, we have a two hour break from 5-7pm if you want to get something to eat nearby, or you can bring something along and eat at the venue.
During the overnighter we will have a light meal together, and everyone is asked to bring something for that. Snacks and drinks will be provided at points through the night and we’ll have a budget for that. We need four or five volunteers to co-ordinate these arrangements.
**Please email Marina ([email protected]) and Anne Marie ([email protected]) if you’d like to help co-ordinate food.
Life Practice Activities
In our upcoming retreat there will be a screen-free extended life practice. Zoomers will also participate, keeping their cameras on and be able to see the various activities unfolding at Colet House and be part of the field there.
We are asking for some student volunteers to help organise discreet life practice activities. For example some ideas:
- Knitting corner: Bring some knitting supplies, and be willing to provide simple instructions for those that may not know how to knit
- Mandala project: Obtain supplies such as a flat solid colored sheet, various colored dried beans or sand, plastic organizing containers, etc. to create a colorful mandala, and co-ordinate the set up
- Create a portrait-photo corner, for one or two people to take photos of fellow-DHUK students to create a gallery of photos (an opportunity to practice presence-based photography and sitting for a photo).
- Greeting card table (great for the student fund): organize magazines to cut up, poetry books for quotes, colored card paper, pens, scissors, glue sticks to make greeting cards
- A polishing table: people can bring some silverware or other items that need cleaning, cloths and polish
Supplies will be reimbursed, you need to first share what you’ll be purchasing, estimated cost, and save your receipts.
**Please email Lisa ([email protected] ) to volunteer, if you have other ideas for a life practice project like any kind of craft or practical task that you could organise, or would be interested in the ones mentioned above.
If you are on zoom please make sure to have a few creative or cleaning projects in mind, any kind of art or craft, polishing the silverware, dusting the books, folding all your clothes & cleaning your dresser drawers, cutting vegetables for a soup ~ all good.
Your questions on any of the above are welcome, and we’re looking forward to a rich time together.
With love,
Dom, Lisa, Tejo, Anne Marie, Kathryn, Marina, Penny
