I grew up on the East Coast and mid-West of the US. I’ve worked primarily as a yoga and meditation teacher in Berkeley, CA, where I owned and ran a yoga studio for 24 years. I continue to teach yoga and meditation online, and I am also a practitioner of Breema Bodywork and other healing modalities. I am a mother to two grown sons, and I split my time between Berkeley and Charleston, SC where I have a business. Aside from my involvement in Diamond Approach, my passions include music, dance, travel, and gardening.
Diamond Approach has been life-changing for me. It’s entirely shifted my perspective—on myself, life, reality. Through this Path, I’ve learned to meet myself exactly where I am, including the “good,” the “bad,” the “ugly.” I’ve learned to stop trying to “fix” myself and have instead become more free—free of limiting beliefs, attitudes, ideals. I’ve learned to trust and to be more real. While I feel I’ve learned and grown so much, at the same time, I understand that I have barely scratched the surface. This Path is an endless and mysterious journey, a journey well worth committing to!
I’m honored to work with students who are ready and willing to engage sincerely with this Path. I am open to working with students of any age, gender, race, nationality, or political persuasion. As a yoga and meditation teacher for the last 30+ years, I have a deep appreciation for the role of the body in spiritual work. I have life experience as a mother of two sons who are mixed race, and I have had the good fortune to travel with my family to many lands. I am interested in the experience of people of other ethnicities, races, and nationalities.
I was drawn mysteriously to this Path. I learned of the Diamond Approach through a good friend, and during those years before I became directly involved, I had a number of significant dreams about the founder, Hameed. I began working with a teacher in training, and this experience was somehow exactly what I needed at the time: I felt met and yet challenged, with a private teacher who was a very good fit for me. From there, when a large group opened that was being led by the founders, Hameed and Karen, it felt very natural to join, and since then I have never looked back. What I love about this Path is that it is never about believing: no, instead it is always about exploring and finding out for myself what is true. This experiential approach is trustworthy. There are no tricks, no gimmicks. It’s just about being real. No small thing!
This is a Path that requires no belief in anything: you are always encouraged to explore and find out for yourself what is true. This happens through inquiry and through learning to meditate, concentrate, and sense more deeply into your immediate experience. All experience is welcome. This means that your inner exploration can take you to many unexpected places, some of which can feel magnificent and some which can be very challenging. You can take your time. The structures and methods of the School—large groups, small groups, and private teachers—provide intelligent and practical support for ongoing spiritual development, which is something that most people seem to need for truly transformative spiritual work. There are many resources available through the School, many ways to engage. There is no “arriving,” no final frontier, because reality is endlessly unfolding.
